3D printing is bringing about the next industrial revolution. Initially, the 3D printer was used to make the prototype for the companies to review it and it could publish it, but companies are now taking 3D printing to the next level. They are making artificial organs, soft and hard tissue of humans and animals, which are however still under testing.

In the present scenario, 3D printing or AM is being used in manufacturing, industry and medical sectors. Doctors are taking advantages of the 3D printing to understand the anatomy of every organ in our body. Plastic Foetus is also made from AM for research. This will make Doctors more aware of the severe condition of an unborn child. Electronics Industry has many applications of 3D printing. They can make a prototype of a PCB (printed circuit board) and analyze its size so that they can make the product according to it. This will save the time of production and cost. The prototype or metal piece, which is generated by 3D printing, has low weight and cost of production is low, due to which it is widely used for making parts of aircraft and they are also durable. As metal 3D printing reduces the cost of production, Automobile industry is also using 3D printing in the production of its cars.

In the architecture industry, people had to make a model of the building so that they could show it to their clients. But with the help of 3D printing, they can build a prototype of a building in a couple of minutes. As the 3D printing is bringing revolution to the world, many CIOs are finding it productive and cheap. Florentin Albu, CIO at the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation says, “3D printing is going to shake up a lot of businesses which deal with physical goods, and there is no doubt that it is going to bring a lot of intellectual property challenges.”

In the end we could say that 3D printing is the beginning of a new era of the 3-dimensional world, where everything is converted from  2D to 3D for better perception and humans can analyze more precisely than ever.  Combined with automation, it will surely change the perception of printing in the coming years.
