Ashmi Engineering & Advisory Services: Bringing About A Paradigm Shift In Engineering Services

CIO Vendor With India being one of the leading destinations of IT in the world, digital transformation is being driven to great lengths across a myriad of industries by successfully leveraging its perfect blend of IT knowledge with its engineering competency. This trend is displaying the new possibility of adding Engineering Services Outsourcing (ESO) as a third major services growth stream, in addition to ITO and BPO, to the already evolving Indian economy. The ESO market is witnessing a significant growth in the recent times and continues to evolve to encompass a wide range of functions such as new product development, value-engineering and engineering consultations. However, engineering firms have to face challenges in case of improper selection of the right outsourcing partner. The major challenges they encounter include 3Cs – Control of quality, Confidence and Communication.

Capitalizing on this opportunity and contributing to the positive growth trajectory is Kolkata headquartered Ashmi Engineering and Advisory Services whose forte lies in serving the various fields of Civil & Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering, 3D Modelling, 2D Drawing, and BIM with the use of latest high-end 3D software. “Our main challenge is to remove this negativity of 3Cs through our positive 3Ss – Superiority, Success & Support. The experience of our seniors and the energy of our juniors enable us to deliver the right quality at the right time,” says Sinchan Halder, Vice President - Operations at Ashmi Engineering and Advisory Services. He goes on to tell us that along with his team of skilled professionals, the key strengths of the company lies in its core management from design and construction domain, well equipped infrastructure (secured FTP, 4MBPS lease line, hi-end desktop with dual monitor, 5+1 Tekla license, 18 Autodesk product including Revit & Inventor), competitive & flexible pricing model depending on the client’s need, tested and proven in-house training model, association with experienced professionals from various engineering disciplines and round-the-clock support and communication.

Maximizing Efficiency and Meeting Business Goals
Recognized and recommended for its engineering services in the field of Civil/Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering & US Joist/Girder/Deck detailing, the team at AEPL leverages cutting-edge software - Tekla to conduct analysis and design of structural steel and its detailing/connection design, leading to production information for fabrication purpose. Tekla is globally acclaimed in the structural engineering sector for its intelligent functioning to develop accurate 3D model of steel structures with complete details and AEPL prides itself on its Tekla steel detailing licenses (5+1) and its team of seasoned engineers.

Once the customer is onboard, the team gains an understanding of the requirements and is furnished with a basic engineering drawing (through email/ uploaded in FTP Server) by the client. Based on this, a 3D model is prepared and sent for approval post which 2D fabrication drawing is extracted from the same model. This 3D model can also be used as a reference to locate any inconsistencies the customer may have not noticed in a 2D design as the customer can view all components from all perspectives for their own satisfaction.

The 3D model is utilized to extract MTO (Material Take Off)/BOM (Bill of Materials) that displays the list of materials with quantities such as the amount of steel, bolts, nuts, washer and the likes that are required to build the structure designed for the customer. Some of the other features that can be obtained from the Tekla 3D model are its ability to be exported in other 3D platforms as well, to check the interface with mechanical equipment, piping, electricals and so on. In conjunction with this, accurate 3D model helps in significant time saving by avoiding various inter disciplinary clashes at site through BIM services. Simultaneously, CNC file can be generated directly to ease the cutting of the plates.

Specializing in US Joist/Girder/Deck detailing, Suman Das, Vice President – Projects; gives us a bit of a background by explaining, “Joist, Girder & Deck are widely used in North America & Europe for construction purpose. Joist & Girder are basically open web steel beams used to make the structure economical. Deck has laid over the platform of joist for flooring and roofing purpose. Joist & Girders are especially designed to withstand various kind of load such as wind uplift, snow drift, sprinkler load, load due to RTU and so on.These loading conditions are the major governing factor to choose the appropriate joist section against particular loading. The detailer has to keep in mind many norms as mentioned by SJI, AISC & OSHA, while creating fabrication drawing for Joist, Girder & Deck.” With the promise to deliver quality services to the leading North American Joist Manufacturer, the detailers at AEPL undergo special training according to the aforementioned standards in order to achieve superior quality manufacturing drawings. In essence, AEPL facilitates Joist/Girder & Deck
with accurate details required for manufacturing which is inclusive of Joist Quantity, Size, Dimension, Section at Left & Right, Steel Weight, Bolt & Stud Information, Specification as per SJI, AISC & OSHA. Mr. Das also expresses his interest of opening up a manufacturing unit of Joist/ Girder in India in coming future in collaboration with leading North American Joist Manufacturer, which may bring revolution in the traditional Indian Construction History.

We are determined to become a game changer and quick adaptation of our engineers is the key to win the confidence of our customers

AEPL has worked with some of the world renowned organizations and is looking to expand its reach even further. Fulfilling this vision, the company has established an EPC think-tank that is dedicated towards searching for possibilities of teaming up with small production companies in the steel manufacturing sector. This was carried out for the purpose infusing the latest technologies into the design drawings thereby translating them into actual quality products for its clients. “I am personally committed to pursuing these initiatives to help us further leverage digital innovation in our business and product,” says Parimal Bhattacharyya, Technical Director of AEPL.

With another select team of skilled individuals devoted to the mechanical engineering sector for operating Inventor professional, the team is currently at the training and development stage and have commenced working on a few sample projects in order to improve competency. In addition to this, the team has begun using Revit to penetrate the Civil Engineering Sector.

Making a difference in this market, AEPL aims to broaden its reach by participating in domestic and international projects while simultaneously creating jobs for young enthusiastic engineers. This will drive growth amidst the people and the land in tandem with the growth of AEPL. Parimal signs off, “Our global reach means that we can support our clients wherever their needs require. We are able to draw upon the accumulated knowledge of our organization that has set new standards of excellence in engineering design especially in steel structures and marine floating structures. We are determined to become a game changer and quick adaptation of our engineers is the key to win the confidence of our customers.”
